Dynamic Inventory Relocation in Disaster Relief†

چکیده

This study investigates dynamic inventory relocation to respond proactively the changing relief demand forecasts over time. In particular, we examine how relocate mobile optimally serve nonstationary stochastic at several potential disaster sites. We propose a model using programming (DP) and develop both analytical numerical results regarding optimal policies, minimum cost-to-go function, value of mobility traditional warehouse pre-positioning. Given computational complexity backwards DP algorithm, base state heuristic (BSH) for general problems by exploiting real-world pattern occurrence. For with temporally independent demand, polynomial time exact algorithm based on spatial–temporal graph. spatially design speedup technique implement BSH in The proposed algorithms are further extended consider impact transportation uncertainties. Numerical experiments show that return high-quality decisions only small fraction required an myopic algorithm. applicable any type inventory, facility, or server similar settings.

Two substitutable perishable product disaster inventory systems

A disaster inventory system is considered in which two substitutable items are stored for disaster management. In the event of disaster management, a particular product may become stock-out and the situation warrants that a demand for the particular product during its stock-out period may be substituted with another available similar product in the inventory. From the utility point of view, con...

Investing in disaster management capabilities versus pre-positioning inventory: A new approach to disaster preparedness

Disaster preparedness has been recognized as a central element in reducing the impact of disasters worldwide. The usual methods of preparedness, such as pre-positioning relief inventory in countries prone to disasters, are problematic because they require high investment in various locations, due to the uncertainty about the timing and location of the next disaster. Investing in disaster manage...

The Impact of Post-Disaster Relocation on Community Solidarity: The Case of Post-Disaster Reconstruction after Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan

Typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan in 2009 and caused severe damages. The government employs a compulsory relocation strategy for post-disaster reconstruction. This study analyzes the impact of this strategy on community solidarity. It employs a multiple approach for data collection, including semi-structural interview, secondary data, and documentation. The results indicate that the government’s strat...

Dynamic Routing during Disaster Events

Innovations in mobile technology allow the use of Internet and smartphones for communicating disasters and coordinating evacuations. However, given the turbulent nature of disaster situations, the people and systems at crisis center are subjected to information overload, which can obstruct timely and accurate information sharing. A dynamic and automated evacuation plan that is able to predict f...

Dynamic Resource Management in Virtualized Environments through Virtual Server Relocation

Virtualization has become an essential technology in the data center. Virtualization improves resource utilization through server consolidation, but it also makes resource management more complex. Golondrina, an autonomic resource management system, was built to use virtual server relocation to handle resource stress situations, that is, situations where the combined resource needs of the virtu...
